This webinar recording is for those involved in assessing for, applying for, or coordinating access arrangements in examinations.
In this webinar, Allyson Harrison discusses research into the appropriate allocation of extra time, rest breaks and other access arrangements in exams. Allyson has overseen research and reviewed a range of papers investigating the use of ‘accommodations’ in exams and assessments (referred to as exam access arrangements in the UK), mostly with post 16 learners in the US and Canada. Given the lack of research in this area in the UK, her findings will be of interest to professionals involved in the field of exam access arrangements in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The course tutor is Allyson Harrison.
Dr Allyson Harrison initially worked at Queen’s University Counselling Service as the “Learning Disabilities Specialist”. In 2003 she was able to obtain government funding to start the Regional Assessment & Resource Centre, arguing that students in under-served communities or those with little access to external funding needed a way to obtain high quality yet affordable diagnostic assessments. Registered to practice in both school and neuropsychology in Ontario, Canada, Dr. Harrison is active in providing assessments to students enrolled in or transitioning into postsecondary education. She has worked tirelessly to promote the rights of students with disabilities, and supported development of programs to help these students succeed in their postsecondary careers.
