Mentoring for Access Arrangements (Mentoring)

£90 for 90 minutes - Please email admin@communicate-ed.org.uk for a discount code to receive the first 90 minutes of mentoring at the reduced rate of £60

The mentoring is designed for anyone involved in the access arrangements who has questions about, or would like support with, any area of the process, including regulations and procedures, assessment or completion of form 8.

Our course tutors will be happy to respond to any queries you may have. They may occasionally refer you to further training or resources if, for example, it is not realistic to give a full answer in the time available.

The course tutors are Lia Castiglione and Caroline Read.

Lia Castiglione

Lia has been teaching and supporting learners of all ages for over 25 years and in varying educational settings. She is a specialist teacher who is highly experienced in all aspects of access arrangements, has held a current Assessment Practising Certificate since 2008 and regularly assesses in schools and colleges. Lia is the co-creator of a postgraduate access arrangements assessor course and is the author of the Patoss/JCQ book, ‘Assessing the Need for Access Arrangements.’

Caroline Read

Caroline Read

Caroline is a Specialist Teacher who has practical experience in all areas of the Access Arrangements process and trains for LAs, Universities and SEN Services. Caroline’s book ‘Assessment Guidance for Access Arrangements’ was published by GL Assessment, and she contributed to the PATOSS/JCQ publication ‘Dyslexia: Assessing the need for Access Arrangements’. Her work has also been published in academic journals, by the TES and the RNIB, and she has worked with various publishers to develop tests. She was part of the working party which set up ‘Access Arrangements Online’ and has been involved with other DfE and Ofqual training and policy projects.

Mentoring takes place on a 1:1 basis, via email, phone or live conference call (your mentor may ask you to access our online meeting room via Zoom). The 90 minutes can be broken up into shorter sessions. Please remember that our staff are also practitioners who work in school or college, carry out assessments and are often involved in training, so you may not receive an immediate response to your queries. If you would like colleagues within your centre to be involved in a specific discussion this may be possible via Zoom, please discuss with your mentor.
