JCQ Access Arrangements Update/Refresher 20/21 HALF DAY Live Interactive Webinar (EAA2)

Our update/refresher course in JCQ Examination Access Arrangements is for delegates who already have a working knowledge of the JCQ regulations. This course is approved by the SpLD Assessments Standards Committee (SASC) for 3 Core CPD hours. Because it is an update course, it assumes a level of knowledge and experience. Delegates will be required to confirm that they have a good knowledge of the current JCQ regulations. For details of our introductory course, please click here.

NB. For our colleagues working in Further Education (F.E.) we will be running our half day webinar on Thursday 17th September will have a particular focus on F.E. as we appreciate that there are often very different challenges to secondary education.

Join us for a live interactive update/refresher course in JCQ Examination Access Arrangements, covering the current regulations with special reference to the changes for the 2020/21 academic year, including updates to the Access Arrangements Online system.

In addition, and with reference to the changes, the course covers:

  • Rationale for Access Arrangements
  • Roles, responsibilities and systems
  • Types of Access Arrangement
  • Completion of form 8
  • Applying for arrangements online
  • Case studies
  • Recommendations for new and established tests

For those who would like to network with colleagues in similar roles or interest groups, we will provide breakout rooms for approximately 30 minutes after the close of the session.

We will squeeze in a short Q&A before the end of the session. If you would like a more extended time of Q&A, please see our full day course.

NB. The Half day webinar on Thursday 17th September will have a particular focus on Further Education (F.E.), as we appreciate that our colleagues working in F.E. often face very different challenges to those working in secondary education.

Caroline Read

Caroline is a Specialist Teacher who has practical experience in all areas of the Access Arrangements process and trains for LAs, Universities and SEN Services. Caroline’s book ‘Assessment Guidance for Access Arrangements’ was published by GL Assessment, and she contributed to the PATOSS/JCQ publication ‘Dyslexia: Assessing the need for Access Arrangements’. Her work has also been published in academic journals, by the TES and the RNIB, and she has worked with various publishers to develop tests. She was part of the working party which set up ‘Access Arrangements Online’ and has been involved with other DfE and Ofqual training and policy projects.

Lia Castiglione

Lia Castiglione

Lia has been teaching and supporting learners of all ages for over 25 years and in varying educational settings. She is a specialist teacher who is highly experienced in all aspects of access arrangements, has held a current Assessment Practising Certificate since 2008 and regularly assesses in schools and colleges. Lia is the co-creator of a postgraduate access arrangements assessor course and is the author of the Patoss/JCQ book, ‘Assessing the Need for Access Arrangements.’

This autumn we have two course delivery options, both online, with different features. The basic course content will be the same for the pre-recorded course and live webinars, but our webinars will provide opportunities for live interaction with both the presenters and colleagues.

​We are choosing to restrict participant numbers in each webinar and throughout the sessions there will opportunities for this to be broken down further into numerous ‘breakout rooms’ allowing real-time small group interaction and discussion. Questions will also be dealt with in two smaller groups, allowing maximum time for answers.

We will use breakout rooms to offer the option for colleagues to gather together in groupings relating to their role and setting - as we have always done. These will be informal,
providing an opportunity to talk about issues of common concern. Delegates regularly find these extremely useful and encouraging.

NB. We will not be recording the live webinars due to data protection issues with the interactive element of the course. It will not be possible to view the webinars again after the live presentation.

This course is not assessed. However, for an extra £10 you can take an online multiple choice assessment that proves your knowledge of the JCQ regulations and procedures. If you pass, you can print out a certificate confirming your knowledge of the regulations to put in your CPD folder.
