The course tutors are Caroline Read and Amy Martin.
Caroline is one of the founders of Communicate-ed. She is a specialist teacher who has practical experience in all areas of the access arrangements process and trains for local authorities, universities and SEND services. Caroline has contributed to a range of publications, including academic journals. She has worked with a number of publishers to develop tests, and has been involved in various DfE and Ofqual training and policy projects. She was a member of the working party that established the Access Arrangements Online system. In 2024 Caroline was presented with a University of Roehampton Chancellor’s Alumni Award, for Innovation and Inspiration in her industry.
Amy is the Managing Director of Communicate-ed. She holds a BSc in Psychology, is a qualified primary teacher and has worked as an access arrangements assessor for a number of years, supporting both secondary schools and FE colleges. She runs our Helpline and Mentoring schemes, and also manages our sister company, Include-ed, who provide the popular PAPAA and APAAC qualifications.
This online course is designed to be administered in one of two ways.
You will have 10 days from the start date you choose to login and view the course – you can run the course as many times as you want within this 10 day period, and there is not a maximum number of delegates for the total course fee of £40. All delegates must all be from your school or college, you can’t use the course to train staff from other centres. We do not provide individual certificates for delegates attending this course, but on request we can provide a certificate confirming that the centre accessed the training.

In this 55 minute course Caroline Read and Amy Martin explain how to produce samples of evidence for extra time as required by the JCQ. They give a brief overview of Access Arrangements, including outlining the rationale for Access Arrangements, showing the arrangements which are available to students and outlining the responsibility to implement arrangements as ‘the normal way of working’ in lessons. They look at how to identify and support students who may need help with reading, help with writing and/or help with working to time.
