This is a practical course for Specialist Teachers who carry out diagnostic assessments for Pre and Post 16 students. It is assumed that delegates will hold an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC), or will be working towards one. Communicate-ed is an Authorised Assessment CPD provider for the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC). This is a SASC approved course giving 5 core hours for renewal of SpLD Assessment Practising Certificates.
This course has been designed to provide guidance on the SASC report formats introduced in June 2019 for diagnostic assessment of pre and post 16 students. Delegates may be aware that some updates to the SASC guidance on the writing of diagnostic assessment reports was announced on 7th October 2021.
Reports written from the 1st December 2021 should reflect the updated formats.
We are currently updating the course in the light of this updated guidance.
It has been written from a practitioner’s perspective and will give guidance on writing clear, accurate reports that follow the recommended guidelines. It will also address common issues that arise particularly when assessors are relatively inexperienced.

For nearly two decades we have been running courses across the country, aiming to provide high quality, value for money training for education professionals working in the area of special needs. Many of our delegates are telling us that it is increasingly difficult for busy professionals to take the opportunity to attend courses ‘off-site’. In response to this, we now offer a number of online training courses, focusing on Examination Access Arrangements, Assessment, and Supporting SEN Students.
With the internet now so accessible, the advantages of online courses are clear:
Courses can be viewed at any time, and in any venue where there is a good internet reception.
As standard, you will have 10 days (or for some courses 20 days) from the start date you choose, to login and view the course. You can run the course as many times as you want to within this 10/20 day period. We also run special offers for some courses which give unlimited access to courses to the end of an academic year.
N.B. Delegates will need a good broadband connection to access our online courses.
Early Bird rate applies to bookings for Face to Face courses received 21 days before the course date.
Our experienced course tutors can offer 5 hours mentoring for delegates who would like support with their report writing.
The fee for mentoring (which will take place by a mixture of email, phone or online video call by agreement with your mentor) is £350 for Communicate-ed members and £395 for non-members. For more information please contact debbie at communicate-ed dot org dot uk dot
