Combined Course Offer: Training for Readers, Scribes, Invigilators AND Training for Invigilators (TRSITIE)

90 mins (TRSI) and 120 mins (TIE) - 10 day log in £110/Unlimited access (to 31/7/22) £200

The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) regulations state: ‘A training session must be held for new invigilators, with an update meeting each year for the existing invigilation team so that they are aware of any changes. Centres should make sure that invigilators know what is expected of them’. We have designed this combined course offer to allow you to have all your centre’s invigilators, and all those involved in Access Arrangements, trained in their examination support roles by an expert, and all for £110!

Training for Readers, Scribes, Invigilators and other adult helpers in Examinations

A 90 minute training course for Teaching Assistants and other adults who support candidate’s access arrangements as e.g. readers/scribes in examinations for General Qualifications (GCSE, FS, etc.) including invigilators who oversee arrangements. Caroline Read, the course tutor, explains the regulations and staff roles. The course includes a video case study and role play option. The course is ideal for training new staff and bringing existing staff up to date, as Caroline highlights the changes for this year.

Training for Invigilators in Examinations

A 120 minute training course where tutor Jugjit Chima introduces the ‘Instructions for Conducting Examinations’ (ICE) booklet and covers issues including the JCQ regulations for invigilation in exams, the role of the invigilator, what to do in difficult situations, written, on-screen & practical exams and passing the JCQ inspection. The course will enable new invigilators to understand their role and, as Jugjit highlights the changes for the current year, it will bring existing invigilators up to date.

We also have a short course just covering the changes for the current year, with an online assessment to confirm current knowledge of the regulations. Please email online at communicate-ed dot org dot uk for more information.

Special offer for this academic year

You can run the course as often as you wish, up until 31st July 2021. Again there is no maximum number of delegates who can watch this course as a group for the total course fee of £200. If you require more than one login due to staff working from home or you would like individual members of staff to complete the assessment and receive a certificate, we offer 3 delegate logins within the course price. After this, up to 10 additional logins can be purchased for £15 each, the next 10 logins for £12 each and any subsequent logins for £10 each. Each login comes with its own assessment.

How to administer these courses:

All delegates must all be from your school or college, you can’t use the course to train staff from other centres. We do not provide individual certificates for delegates watching the courses as a group, but on request we can provide a certificate for each course confirming that the centre accessed the training (for JCQ inspection purposes). Every delegate whom you purchase a login for will receive access to the assessments and certificates for their CPD file if they pass.

  1. Ideally a group of adults who will be supporting candidates with access arrangements, or those acting as invigilators will be able to access the course together at the same time. For this we recommend that you use a digital projector and large screen with speakers to amplify the presentation.
  2. If one or two staff members are unable to make the group session, they can be booked in below and will be sent separate login details and can access the course individually. Up to 3 logins are included in the course price, then they are charged as per the table below.

For nearly two decades we have been running courses across the country, aiming to provide high quality, value for money training for education professionals working in the area of special needs. Many of our delegates are telling us that it is increasingly difficult for busy professionals to take the opportunity to attend courses ‘off-site’. In response to this, we now offer a number of online training courses, focusing on Examination Access Arrangements, Assessment, and Supporting SEN Students.

With the internet now so accessible, the advantages of online courses are clear:

  • They can be accessed at the delegate’s convenience, in the workplace or home
  • Delegates don’t need to travel, saving time and transport costs
  • Running costs are lower, allowing us to pass savings on to our delegates

Courses can be viewed at any time, and in any venue where there is a good internet reception.

As standard, you will have 10 days (or for some courses 20 days) from the start date you choose, to login and view the course. You can run the course as many times as you want to within this 10/20 day period. We also run special offers for some courses which give unlimited access to courses to the end of an academic year.

N.B. Delegates will need a good broadband connection to access our online courses.

Each course includes the option to complete an online multiple choice assessment at the end of the course. The assessments cover the content of the course and are a good way to confirm that delegates have understood and remembered what they have learned. Each login purchased comes with an assessment for each course. The original idea was that the group watching the course would complete the assessments together at the end of the course. Only one certificate for each course can be provided per login, so if you would like individual members of staff to complete the assessment and receive a certificate, please purchase the correct number of delegate logins when booking.

Online

  • Basic course fee (centres can watch as a group from the lead delegate login plus we offer 2 free additional logins within this price; these must be added as delegates below at the time of booking. Additional logins will be charged as per the table opposite and must also be added as delegates below) £110.00

These TRSI and TIE courses were always intended to be accessed by groups watching together on the lead delegate’s login and completing the assessment together. This is still the case, but in the light of group training being less possible during the pandemic, and in response to feedback from those who would like individual staff members to complete the assessments (and receive an individual certificate), we are now offering the option to purchase additional logins. We are including 3 delegate logins in the current course price, and the pricing for additional delegate logins is shown below when you click to book. This arrangement applies for both the 10 day and rest of academic year options.

Please note that delegate logins must be booked all together at the time of booking by adding delegates below. The booking total will automatically be adjusted when you check out.
