SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH ASPERGER SYNDROME

This course will be particularly helpful to teachers and learning support staff in mainstream education, SENCos, education managers and parents. Students with Asperger syndrome often underachieve throughout their educational careers. The course aims to outline the issues involved in the identification of students with Asperger syndrome and in meeting their educational needs.


The course will cover:

* Identification
* Strengths and needs profiles for appropriate support
* What challenges do students face?
* The overlap with other autistic spectrum conditions
* Overlap with other SpLDs
* Management, support and intervention in schools/colleges
* Transition between stages of education


The course tutor is Maggie Anderson
Maggie has over thirty years’ experience of working with children and adults with cognitive differences in a variety of educational and social settings. Currently, she works as a provider of specialist support to schools, education authorities and families in the education of children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions. She has published in the field of early education and taught in Higher Education.
