SUPPORTING STUDENTS WITH BEHAVIOURAL DIFFICULTIES  4.5 hours

Difficult behaviour is becoming more of a challenge in all schools at the moment. This course, which can be studied by teachers, education managers or support staff taps into the expertise and experience of someone who has worked with challenging behaviour in a variety of settings, and provides delegates with the knowledge, skills and behaviour to become more confident and effective in the classroom.

The course will cover:

* Staff behaviours that escalate a crisis
* The child with emotional and behavioural difficulties
-Reasons behind SEBD
-How school organisation often makes behaviour worse
-Classrooms and management strategies
-The self-esteem spiral and how to build self-esteem
*The goals of misbehaviour and strategies to counteract it
-Attention seeking
-Power seeking
-Revenge seeking
-Display of inadequacy
*Managing our own anger and that of others


The course tutor is Ronnie Young
Ronnie has been a teacher all her working life in schools, colleges, pupil referral units and prisons. During her long and varied career she has taught many children with special educational needs and those with behavioural difficulties, and has also managed large SEN departments. She has a particular interest in neuro-diversity (the hidden difficulties of dyslexia, dyspraxia, AD/H/D and Asperger syndrome) as she is herself severely dyspraxic, her elder son has Asperger syndrome and she has a nephew on the AD/H/D spectrum. She is a practising OFSTED inspector in both schools and colleges and is a recognised and respected trainer nationally and overseas, specialising in behaviour management and working with young people with neuro-diverse conditions.
