Selecting, Using and Interpreting Standardised Tests
Principles for educational testing - TWO DAY COURSE
In response to the recent changes to the JCQ regulations concerning Specialist Teachers, Communicate-ed has arranged a new two day course helping you to select, administer and interpret the results from standardised tests.
The course tutor is Sarah Beard. Sarah is a Specialist Teacher who is Course Leader for the OCR Specific Learning Difficulties/Dyslexia courses at Orpington College. She lectures locally and nationally on the subject of dyslexia and SpLD. She is also an External Verifier for OCR SpLD/Dyslexia suite of courses, and has her own consultancy teaching and assessing dyslexic learners of all ages.
Course Content
The course will cover key aspects for consideration when choosing standardised tests and the correct administration and interpretation of these tests including:
• Reliability and validity
• Currency
• Age appropriate testing
• Interpretation of statistical data
• Costs and accessibility of tests
• Interpretation of results
• Standardisation
• Using Standardised Tests for Access Arrangements
There will be the opportunity to discuss in depth a selection of tests from the following list: WRIT, WRAT 4, Access Reading Test, Adult Reading Test, DASH and CToPP. Please note that this course does not offer accreditation. You will receive a certificate of attendance, but we will not be assessing your skills or knowledge. Assessments for JCQ Access Arrangements: The course alone is not sufficient to enable delegates to carry out JCQ Access Arrangements assessments. However, alongside other qualifications and experience it could enable you to meet the required criteria.
Some comments from previous delegates on the two day ‘Selecting, Using and Interpreting Standardised Tests’ Course:
• Once again Communicate-ed has come up trumps! I attended the 1/2 day course on "Selecting, Using and Interpreting Standardised Tests" and decided to enrol on the 2 day course. As an experienced SENCo but with few formal qualifications which cover assessment, I felt this extended course would help me enormously, especially in my new role of ensuring the correct Access Arrangements for exams are in place. And I was right! Now that I am up to speed with the theory and have had practical experience of different tests, I feel far more confident and knowledgeable about what needs to be done in this and other aspects of testing. Well done Communicate-ed!
• Incredible value for money – a fraction of the price of other courses I considered, but still excellent.
• An excellent course, yet another from Communicate-ed.
• Course did exactly what it said on the tin!
• Delivered in a very user friendly way.
• I love your courses!
• Lecturer’s knowledge of the subject was fantastic.
• Well paced session, expert guidance and knowledge.
• Huge shortcut through manuals and consolidation of knowledge.
